Ian is passionate about reducing the unnecessarily high maternal/newborn mortality rates which are primarily caused by complications of poverty and lack of access to quality health care. Ian teaches a model of midwifery care which primarily focuses on protecting the natural and physiological process of labor and birth, but also teaches midwives to learn advanced emergency skills to be prepared for rare complications if they do occur.
