This is our family operated, Non-Profit Organization, Mercy In Action

which focuses on the crisis in Maternal/Newborn/Child health care worldwide. We have been establishing and funding free birth centers for poor families in the Philippines since 1992, and to date more than 12,000 babies have been delivered free of charge for the poorest of the poor in Mercy In Action's Birth Centers, and literally tens of thousands of lives have been helped and healed in the medical outreaches

Midwifery Volunteerism in Developing Countries

Classes are filling up fast. The next trainings will be in Boise and Portland this August and focus on the advanced skills midwives can acquire to meet the health needs of women and newborns who must give birth in situations of extreme poverty (which is the majority of women and newborn in the world, by the way). Many people may not see it from where they live, but if we can move ourselves enough to look outside our own doors and past our own walls, we will realize that the current condition of the world IS poverty. As midwives shouldn't we be prepared to assist and protect childbirth wherever we are most needed? World Health Organization thinks so; they have been issuing pleas for more midwives trained to deal with the needs of women in developing nations for years.

This August's class will address current research and practice recommendations from WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, USAID, and other leading institutes of global health

Safe Motherhood Initiative: Ian's Speech for COMM101

I had to give my second speech for my online classes, but haflway through the semester we moved from Boise to the Philippines to join the team that has already been hard at work to build our clinic....hmm, this provided me the opportunity to combine tasks. I especially love the bleating goat in the background.
